Embrace the Dip

Hey there!
6:05 am – let’s write a daily email.
I’ve been looking back at a few of my older emails and noticed that a lot of them seem like I’m using this as a personal journal entry. And you know what? I’m okay with that. That was kind of the point of all this. How many emails or newsletters do you get where it’s just pumping their own tires or pushing their next opportunity? I wanted this to be rawer—more about the actual ups and downs of being your own boss and the emotional toll it can take on you as a person.
That brings me to the subject line of today’s email: Embrace the Dip.
This past month has challenged me. Ever have one of those months where no matter what you do it seems like there’s always something else that needs your attention? Like the things that aren’t usually a big deal suddenly feel like the world is crashing down around you? Yeah, having one of those months.
I was on a webinar yesterday about boutique hotels, and my business partner was in the presentation as well. Afterwards, we recapped what we learned and discussed our strategy for when we go to Mexico in a couple of weeks. That’s when I opened up a bit about business and life and how the past month hasn’t been ideal. His text back to me was simple: “Embrace the dip.”
It’s weird, but a calm came over me for a moment when I stopped to realize that yes, this is a roller-coaster life I’ve chosen, and there will inevitably be ups and downs on my way to the top. It’s difficult to see that side of things while you’re in the middle of whatever shitstorm you’ve found yourself in, but it’s important to remember that this too shall pass.
All of this is an excellent reminder of two things that every entrepreneur should consider:
- Surround yourself with people who are there to lift you up when you fall and keep you humble when you reach your goals.
- If this shit was easy, we’d all be doing it.
My business partner on this hotel is that guy you want in your corner, and my wife is like always having my own personal cheerleader around. Without people like this, I wouldn’t be on the path that I’m on. And of course, entrepreneurship is hard. It’s also the most exciting and inspiring way to live and build toward your dreams. If you don’t have the lows, the highs won’t feel as amazing when you reach them.
So, use this as a reminder—no matter if you’re having a bit of a dip or you’re completely at the top of your game—this too shall pass. It’s important to lean on the people you’ve surrounded yourself with to keep you grounded and pointing in the right direction.
Today, I’m choosing to refocus my energy on the most important tasks and start checking things off one by one. Tomorrow, I’ll do the same.
Let me know if you’re crushing it right now or if you’re in a bit of a dip. Have an amazing day today.
Til tomorrow,
Ryan
