Chasing My Dreams

Good morning!

It’s the end of another long week, and I hope you’ve made strides in your business and planned some time to relax and recharge this weekend.

The past two emails have been about setting a Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG). It’s the kind of goal that makes you a little uncomfortable when you say it out loud and probably sounds a bit crazy to anyone you’ve shared it with.

What I haven’t shared yet is my own BHAG.

For me, it has always been about freedom. I want to travel more, see the amazing places this planet has to offer, and spend my winters somewhere warm. My financial goal is to net one million dollars a year while working the hours I choose and doing something I love. Over the years there have been several different versions of this dream, but now I feel like I’ve finally found the path that will get me there.

This Sunday morning I’m heading to Puerto Vallarta to meet up with my business partner Ian as we take the next step toward making this dream a reality. To be honest, I feel both excited and anxious. The excited part is that we’re actually doing this. We’re going to Mexico, touring a dozen boutique hotels, meeting local hospitality operators, and getting a feel for the business landscape. The anxious part is the exact same thing.

Even after nearly 18 years in real estate investing, I’ve never done anything quite like this. And those familiar thoughts we all have start to creep in as the trip gets closer.
Can we really do this? Are we wasting our time? Will investors trust us? What if we make a mistake?

Then I take a breath, refocus, and remind myself that this is my dream and nothing is going to get in the way of it.

We’re going to run into plenty of challenges along the way, but that’s part of what makes this so exciting. Being creative, solving problems, and building something from the ground up that we can be proud of keeps me motivated and pushing forward.

So here’s my challenge for you this weekend. Write down your BHAG and ask yourself one simple question that keeps me going through the highs and lows: Why not me?

Whatever your dream is, you are fully capable and worthy of it. Take this as your reminder to go out and grab it. Take one step closer today, then repeat that process until you make it.
