Rest and Gratitude

Good morning, and to my fellow Canadians, Happy Thanksgiving!
I hope you had a great weekend and are ready to take on another week. This one reminded me how important it is to pause, rest, and appreciate how far we’ve come.
To be honest, the past month has been a grind. The contractor I fired left us over budget with poor-quality work, then vanished. My CRM has been giving me technical issues, and business hasn’t been moving as fast as I had hoped. It all added up to frustration, disappointment, and feeling overworked and let down.
By Sunday, I hit a wall. I made the tough decision to skip family Thanksgiving dinner, which isn’t like me. But that choice forced me to face something I had been avoiding: I needed rest, and I needed perspective.
I had been pushing through, pretending everything was fine, while my body and mind were begging for a break. My wife noticed it before I did. She told me I hadn’t been myself, and she was right. I had ignored how frustrated I was, and it was showing up in my attitude every day.
The truth is, I needed to stop. To breathe. To take a full day off and do absolutely nothing. No work, no thinking about work, just time to reset.
The second thing I needed was gratitude. I had been so caught up in the problems that I stopped appreciating what was going right. The life we’ve built, the partner I get to build it with, the freedom I have now compared to the factory job I once hated. It’s easy to lose sight of all that when you’re buried in stress.
So if you’ve been feeling off lately, take that as a signal. Step back. Rest. Even a few hours of doing nothing can recharge your energy and clear your head. Then, start each day by thinking of one thing you’re grateful for. Your family, your home, your health, your car, whatever comes to mind.
Those two simple things — rest and gratitude — will help you regain control and handle whatever challenges come next.
Go ahead and open your calendar right now. Pick a time and day this week to unplug completely. You’ll be amazed at how much lighter you feel afterward.
Talk tomorrow,
Ryan
